Secret Cinemas
The second Cinema of Ideas was held on 18 July 2007 in the Studio, BFI Southbank.

Gay cinema has a rich and diverse cinematic tradition beyond the mainstream. But in the last decade, representation of western gay experience has become a commonplace part of film culture. Is this supposed acceptability helpful? Is it possible we were more inventive when culture was censorious, when the unconventionality of sexuality didn't have to conform to the expectations of mainstream code? Have we sacrificed complexity, aesthetic difference to conform to the pressure to be explicit?

Guests included writer Howard Schuman, writer and director, Bille Eltringham and curator of the bfi Mediatheque and former programmer of the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, Robin Baker.
